Nyngan Junior Soccer took on Trangie for the final match round of the 2008 season and scored an impressive two wins and a loss.
After months of arctic winds, sleet, dust storms and two- inch frosts, the conditions on the sidelines were finally bearable on the weekend and a good crowd turned up to the Nyngan fields for the matches.
Trangie turned up with enough minis players to field two teams, but not enough senior players for one team, which may have influenced the results on the day, but Nyngan stepped up to fill the gaps and put on a good show for the crowd.
The Nyngan Mini Dragons put up a brave fight against a veritable army of Trangie players. The Trangie bench was chock-a-block with fresh subs and their wily coach capitalised on this.
The Nyngan Dragons put up a good fight despite the torrent of goals scored against them.
Lachlan Donnelly, Jorja Griffiths, Max Hoare and Lily Meldrum made some good inroads into the Trangie defence and even managed to force Trangie to score an own goal.
Alex McLaughlin, Katherine Richardson, Hamish Donnelly, Austin Patterson and Ella Meldrum made some good moves and Harley Yeomans was awarded the player of the week trophy.
In the Mids grade, Nyngan team 2 played a well-organised game, with lots of well-placed passes and honed ball control.
The goal scorers were Jacob Carter (2), John Menzies (2), Jacob Shone (1), Zali Wherritt (1) and coach Emily Glason awarded the players’ trophies to Zali Wherritt and Jacob Carter.
Brynn Hoare showed his continued improvement, Tahlia Ryan was excellent in goals and Adam Palmer was once again terrific with his clearing defensive kicks.
The Nyngan senior team was once again victorious, although they played against a depleted Trangie side.
Nyngan dominated most of the game and were well in control so could afford to be charitable for the last quarter by which time Trangie was tired and disheartened.
Coach Brian Bonello lent four of his players which evened up the competition and gave the players and the crowd some exciting soccer.
“The important thing this week was not the score but the sportsmanship shown by both teams, well done to all,” Brian said.
Senior players of the week were Ryan Beetson and Ben Harris.
Nyngan Junior Soccer plays its final matches on Saturday when all teams travel to Gilgandra for the zone gala day.
The club presentation will be held at the Nyngan Junior Soccer fields on Sunday from 11am.
