Two school holiday-depleted Nyngan junior soccer teams took on a tough Gilgandra outfit on the weekend with the Seniors managing a win and the Mids brave in defeat.
The games were played at Gilgandra on the first weekend of the school holidays, but despite many players being away, Nyngan was still competitive and the teamwork was commendable.
Brian Bonello’s Senior team won its game 6-0 despite having no reserves to call upon. The goal scorers were consistent performers Jayden Bonello (2), Ben Harris (2), Ryan Beetson (1) and Connor Ryan (1).
Choosing the players of the week was again a tough task, but Jayden Bonello and Luke Wye were both worthy recipients.
The Mids side comprised players from both Nyngan teams, as well as a few “borrowed” from Gilgandra to make up the numbers.
Coach Tammy Gillespie was impressed with the way the players bonded throughout the match and said the teamwork was commendable given the team had not worked together before.
Nyngan was defeated but played well nonetheless. Players of the week were Zara Hoare, Hamish Wye, and little dynamo Ashley Carter who was brave enough to volunteer as goalkeeper (saving two great attempts as well).
The Nyngan Minis were unable to form a team as so many kids had prior holiday engagements so forfeited their match.
Nyngan Junior Soccer has a two-week break for the remainder of the school holidays.
