Pair finally on top to take out foursomes win

23/07/2008 4:52:00 PM
Guy Monaghan and Brendan Smith are the new foursomes champions.

They have been regular partners for years - they just missed out last year - but this year they had a six-shot margin over Les Dorrington and Don Lister, their nearest rivals.

Guy and Brendan had a 72 in the morning round including an eagle three on the 13th. A few showers during the afternoon round saw their score balloon out a little with a 76 including a seven on the fifth - still a pretty good score in the conditions.

Dorro and Don were the runners-up with 154, very steady all day, while last year’s winners Jamie and Rosie were nearer last than first.

Handicap winners by a short half-head were the Shire boys Dave Bartley and Dave Martin with 134 nett. They almost threw it all away with an ugly seven on the very last hole.

Ball winners were Josh Loxley and Graham Tomek, and Dorro and Don both on 135 nett. Josh and Tex improved by 15 shots in their afternoon round.

Pin winners were Barry Howell, Dang Holmes and a double to Tony Lewis on the second and fourth.

Saturday’s stroke had a healthy field of 18 players. Winner with a fantastic 57 nett, nine under his handicap, was Jordan Lane. He has just spent a week playing golf in the Mollymook area and obviously picked up a tip or two.

Runner-up with a top score as well was Nigel Wass with 60 nett. Next best was Peter Lupton with 61 nett, the last ball went to Codge McCarthy with 64 nett. Pin winners were Jordan, Codge and Mick Hanlon.

The ladies also played their foursomes. The winners with 158 scratch were Mandy Martin and Melissa Arandale for about the seventh time - they had an 11-shot margin over last year’s winners Lyn Hawley and Maureen Finn.

Handicap honours went to Dolly Ryan and Sharyn Smith with 134 nett.

Runner-up with 140 nett was Mim Pateman and Margie Spicer. Ball comp winners were Luan Hawley and Sandra Beetson. The pin winners were Maureen and Lyn on the fourth and ninth, Mandy and Melissa on the 14th, and Vicky and Deeanna on the 17th.

Midweek winners were Deeanna and Jenny Holmes with 48 points, Betty Harper and Betty Munro with 40 points.

Pin winners were Jenny and Deeanna.

Next weekend is a stableford on Saturday and the Con Kourt Shield on Sunday. The shield is now a medley event.

A big thankyou to Scott and Ron for Sunday’s beaut lunch and tea which was enjoyed by one and all.

Badge draw this Thursday is $425 plus the usual meat raffles getting under way about 7.30pm.
