Monaghan A Grade champion for 2008

25/09/2008 10:57:00 AM
The second round of our club championships were completed on Sunday on a very fast ‘Royal Nyngan’ in perfect conditions.

The A Grade club champion for 2009 is Guy Monaghan with a two round total of 140, four over par. Guy took a three-shot lead into the final round over Dave Rose and was never headed after the pair both shot second rounds of 71. Guy’s victory was well deserved, he played very consistent golf over both days. He had been spotted over the levee practising lately and his extra work has certainly payed off, well done Mon. Runner-up needless to say was Dave Rose, Dave never ceases to amaze everyone, dusting off the clubs every now and then and always remains more than competitive.

The handicap winner in A Grade coming home like Bernborough was Nigel Wass with 125 nett. Nigel shot his best round to date with 72 off the stick for a nett score of 57 for the second round. This helped Nigel win by five shots from first-round leader Chicky Parry with 130 nett.

The B Grade was fought out by a pair of left handers with Wayne Holmes running out the winner from Kenny Burt. Dang didn’t quite repeat his great round from the first week however again played very well.

The handicap section in B Grade went to Adrian Hawley (fresh from his trip over to Batemans Bay) in a close finish with Peter Rees.

Round two trophy winners were A Grade Scratch, David Rose, A Grade Handicap Nigel Wass. B Grade scratch went to Neil Carthew making his return and Col Pratt won the handicap.

Pins were won by Codgy McCarthy, Tex Tomek (80cms), Kenny Burt and Brad Lane.

Shot of the day went to Tex on the always difficult 9th, knocked his tee shot to a foot away for a tap in birdie. Shame he already had it on the electic.

A big thankyou to the boys who did a power of work on the course during the week, Boots, Lewy, Brian Quinton and Jordan Lane without you the golf wouldn’t have been possible.

Saturday’s par event went down to the wire with a three-way countback required to find a winner. ‘The Bear’ Patrick Hogan was the evenual winner with +2. Filling the placings were Barry Howell and Peter Murphy. Peter Murphy managed to get a double with the pins.

Don’t forget next Sunday is the Murphy’s Hardware Day, a three-person ambrose, this is always a great day with heaps of prizes up for grabs so get a team together and come out.

See you all at the Golfie soon.
