‘Chook’ on roll to take stroke

7/08/2008 3:21:00 PM
Saturday’s stroke winner with 64 nett was Chook Hawley who had a two-shot margin over Tex Tomek on 66 nett. They were the only two players in the field to play to their handicap or better. Mark Keighran was the other ball winner with 71 nett.

The pin winners were Pat Hogan on the second and Tex on the 12th and 17th. Over the previous couple of months Chook has reduced his handicap by eight strokes and shows no sign of stopping. The scores in Sunday’s stableford were a heck of a lot better when 40 points was recorded by two players. Boots Holmes had the better countback, beating Col Pratt by two points on the back nine.

Pat Walsh was the other ball winner with 39 points. Pin winners for the day were Ian Cleaver on the 17th and a double to Mick McGlynn on the second and 14th.

At the halfway mark in the ladies championship Mandy martin has a commanding lead of 15 shots over Maureen Finn in the ‘A’ Grade. Not so in ‘B’ Grade where Margie Spicer has a one-shot lead over Colleen Anderson. In the handicap section Mandy leads Jodie Stewart by two and a half shots in ‘A’ Grade and Colleen leads Margie by three and a half in ‘B’ Grade.

In the ball comp all the above players plus Kirsty Burley were successful and the pin winners were Dolly Ryan, Colleen and a double to Mandy.

Next weekend the ladies play their final round of their championships on Sunday and for the men the August Monthly Medal, an 18-hole stroke, is set down for Saturday and Sunday there is a 4BBB par event. Also on that day we have three teams in the NSW Men’s 4B play-off in Dubbo, hope they get in amongst the winners.

Badge draw this Thursday night is worth $475 to the lucky winner also meat trays to be won, all happening about 7.30pm. Happy Hour happens on Friday nights. A special thanks to Brad and Jordan who raked up the greens ready for Sundays golf and Scott and Ron who catered for Sunday’s lunch, thanks very much fellas.
