Riders enjoy a successful event

The Mid Western one day event held at Nyngan Showground on April 5 and 6 was a most successful weekend with all visitors and locals enjoying themselves.

The cross country course, which had been the object of much work some time before the event, rode very well and there were only a small number of eliminations.

On Saturday riders did their dressage and showjumping, then there was time to walk the course.

Dressage judges were Mr Ian Mawbey, Mrs Jodie Saville, Mrs Jenny Sandford, and Mrs Sharne Dutton.

The showjumping was done by Les and Joy Waters and locals helped with course building and rail pick up.

The hard-working canteen workers were Elaine Johnson and Dione Carter who kept all well supplied with very tasty food.

Saturday evening Steve Salter cooked a great barbecue which was served with salads and followed up with sweets.

Sunday morning was cross country time and after much juggling around with jump judges by Vernette Gibson and Mary Dutton, eventually the list was complete and assigned to their respective jumps, and the riders were off.

I think there was only one fall which was a minor one and by the time the 65 riders went around it was lunch time followed by presentations.

The results were as follows:

CNC one star - 1. Clinton Van Der Sanden, 2. Dale Frew, 3. Susan Burnheim, 4. Amy Van Der Sandem.

Pre Novice - 1. Alex Wolters-Mannix, 2. Emma Hindmarsh, 3. Dale Frew,

Preliminary - 1. Susan Burnheim, 2. Cassandra McCarroll 3. Elizabeth Hoy, 4. Emma Hindmarsh, 5. Michelle Hayter

Introductory - 1. Amanda Murray, 2. Sandie Baggett, 3. Alex Wolters-Mannix 4. Sue Currey 5. Elizabeth Hoy.

Newcomers - 1. Jannah Pye 2. Rosemary Jackson, 3. Stephen Mannix, 4. Madeline Dutton, 5. Donna White.

The Mid Western Equestrian club is very greatful to our sponsors Furneys town and Country, Tritton Copper Mines, Nyngan Rural Agencies, Nyngan Pony Club, Fay and Anne Ballard and the Richardson family for donating a rug as a first prize for each grade, and to Marsh Carney, Elders Nyngan and Landmark Nyngan and Nyngan Innovations for donations of prizes for lower placings.

Thank you to all our Pony Club and Mid Western members for their hard work and enthusiasm over the period.

Last but not least thank you to our Technical Delgate Norm Hindmarsh and to NSW Horse Trials secretary Vicki Burgess.

We hope for a bigger and just as friendly and happy event next year.

Thank you all again.
