All roads led to Forbes on Sunday May 4 for the Forbes Netball Carnival. In mostly ideal conditions a large contingent of Nyngan players and their families made the trek straight from Gilgandra and the Group 14 inter-town competition.
Nyngan had girls in the Group 14 Under 15s, Under 14s and Under 12s rep squads. All girls played exceptionally well, averaging around eight games on the day. Congratulations must go to the Under 15s and Under 12s rep sides who were the winners of their age group. All our Nyngan girls showed great skill and determination and did not take a backward step. Many favourable comments were heard on the sideline regarding the abilities of our players.
Nyngan girls in the undefeated Under 15s squad were Amy Beetson, Brittney Burt, Chez Morison, Danielle Collins and Carla Wright. The team had wins against Temora (32-4), Forbes (21-5), Young (17-8), West Wyalong (14-13), Group 14 Under 14s (19-6), Cowra (16-3), Young (10-7) and West Wyalong (12-5). Coach Nerida Morison was justifiably proud of the efforts of the girls.
“We certainly made the opposition sit up and take notice”, were her comments. “Thumbs up, girls, you were awesome.”
Results of the Under 14s games are not to hand, however, Nyngan’s Demi Jeffery and Tayla Dunn were invaluable - Demi with her defence and Tayla in the goal circle and on the attack. There is no stopping these girls once they get going.
Group 14 Under 12s, under the steady guidance of coach Mark Beetson and Manager/Strapper extraordinaire Sue Barclay, took out its age division. Congratulations go to Maddie Carthew, Sophie White, Emma Beetson, Emily Barclay, Emily Bandi and Rebecca George. With the bulk of the team consisting of Nyngan players it meant that the squad was well-drilled and always ‘on the ball’. The team came away with victories against Cowra (12-8), Young (16-2), Forbes Flyers (19-2), Forbes Rep (13-5), West Wyalong Rep (23-4), Cowra (12-8) and also against Temora and West Wyalong whose scores I don’t have. Girls - you rock! (And so do you, Mrs Barclay!)
Next week the rep carnival is at Cowra. Here’s to some great netball.
Congratulations to the Smugglers Arms netball side competing in the Dubbo competition A-Grade division. On our way over to Forbes we stopped and cheered on the girls who had a great win over one of the Dubbo sides 58-30. Another proud moment for Nyngan netballers.
Good to see a large number of parents at the games. Weren’t those little midget footballers and Under 8s netballers just adorable. I’ve never seen so many parents all gaa-gaa at the one time. Keep it up and enjoy the whole experience.
