The Cancer Council NSW is hoping to raise over $250,000 from Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea to help prevent, support and treat cancer in the western region.
The cancer council is urging Nyngan residents to get involved to help achieve this goal.
“We always get enormous support from this community and this year we know they will get behind us again,” said Kate Schofield, Community Relations Coordinator at the Cancer Council NSW’s western regional office.
“There is still time for people to call 1300 65 65 85 and register to host a morning tea so we can raise enough funds to help residents of the central west who are struggling with cancer.”
Nine people hosted an Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea in Nyngan last year, enabling the Cancer Council NSW to fund research, prevention and support services which included over 40 people who joined in a support group for cancer patients, families and carers over the phone in our telephone support group program in the western region.
“Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is the perfect excuse to get your friends and colleagues together for a good old chat and it is so easy to organise. It’s as simple as boiling the kettle, making a donation and having the satisfaction of knowing you are making a difference,” said Cancer Council NSW volunteer Bev Charles.
“Anyone can host a morning tea - it’s a really simple concept and easy to do. A host registers to hold a morning tea - invites their friends, family or work colleagues, and everyone who attends is encouraged to donate money to the cause,” Ms Schofield said.
“It doesn’t matter how big or small the morning tea is - every cup counts in the fight against cancer.
“Whether you’re taking a 15-minute break with colleagues at work or you’re gathering your friends together at your house, every morning tea helps.
“And this year, for the first time, people who are unable to participate in a morning tea can still support the cause by having a ‘virtual cuppa’ and making an online, tax-deductible donation.”
