Dennis Callaghan started work with Macquarie Council County on April 30 1974 as a cleaner. Around 15 months later he started a linesman’s course, which he completed in 12 months.

While he was working in Dubbo he received an electric shock that put him in hospital, he was then not able to work on live mains for some time.

He then decided to come to Nyngan in May 1983 as a line inspector for Cobar, Nyngan, Warren and Coonamble, he did this job for three years before returning to line work full-time at Nyngan. In 1994 he became team leader at Nyngan and in March 2008 he took his long service leave of 18 months.
